Who I am

Hi! I’m Sarah, an artist with a deep passion for detailed animal portraits.
My journey into drawing didn’t begin in early childhood like it does for many artists. Instead, I discovered my love for art during the COVID-19 pandemic. With more time and space to explore new things, I picked up a pencil, chose a photo of my horse, and challenged myself to recreate it on paper. That moment sparked something in me, and since then, drawing has become a true passion.

Today, I focus on realistic animal portraits, working with a selection of oil, pencils, watercolor and colored pencils (Polychromos), always drawn by hand on paper or canvas. My aim is to capture not just what an animal looks like, but who it is, its expression, its energy, and its presence. My style is realistic but not hyperrealistic, I love when a drawing still feels like a drawing, with room for softness, color, and a touch of artistic playfulness.

Alongside my art, animals, especially horses, have always played a central role in my life. I’ve been passionate about horses since childhood, and horseback riding remains one of my longest-standing hobbies. This connection helps me understand and portray animals on a deeper level.

When I’m not drawing, I’m studying law at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, where I’m pursuing my degree alongside my creative work.

When creating a portrait, a strong reference photo is essential. I often ask clients to send several images so we can choose the one that will work best. Lighting, angle, and sharpness are crucial, especially around the eyes, which I consider the emotional heart of every piece. Sometimes I even take the photos myself, particularly when working with people I know.

Each artwork takes time, usually around two months from commission to completion, with 20 to 30 hours of focused drawing. I like to work in stages and set the piece aside between sessions, as stepping back often reveals details I might miss when too close to the process.

You can see many of my finished portraits on my Instagram, where I only post works with the owner’s permission to respect privacy. I also plan to participate in local art fairs and small exhibitions in the future.

If you’re looking for a portrait filled with detail, emotion, and heart, I’d be honored to bring your beloved to life on paper or canvas.
